Kate Abdo is preparing for Misfits boxing debut
Kate has been offered some Misfits action, the dates have to line up. We all know who will train her for it. It’s something we’re going to take on when the time’s right, most likely it won’t be as early as this summer, but look out for it. She can really fight. She’s technically very good and has a great work ethic. Technically her base is very good and she throws strong combinations. She’s knowledgeable about boxing because of her job. She’s very interested in putting the skills she’s learnt from her partner into practice and I’m backing her. We haven’t picked an opponent yet.
Jamie Carragher apologised to me, I’m glad I stood up for the women I love
Jamie had an off moment and said something he shouldn’t have said – how many times in life have we all done that? You chop it up and apologise like men, which he did, and life goes on. I respect anyone who has a mishap and is man enough to apologise to the person and the person’s partner. I felt no ill feelings when we met.
The thing that Jamie said, Kate was hurt, but they all made up and handled it collectively at the time. I said my piece on it, but the real thing is, we all got together and looked into each other’s eyes and had great food and great conversations. I never had a strong opinion about Jamie Carragher, only about the things that he said, but meeting him, I really enjoyed the man’s company. I have the utmost respect for him, as well as the rest of the panel.
It was a good thing that I spoke up for my partner, I was standing up for the person I love. But I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jamie, Micah and Thierry. I love them to death and it was great to go over there and shake their hands. We had lunch and laughed. Thierry and I shared tips on film study. It was very intriguing and refreshing to have a legend like him break down the details of his football world. Even Jamie, there’s something I admire about him, he was a great player in his time, he’s doing a great job on television and he’s always smiling. And Micah is the humour source of their show, they’re the best panel.
Wilder would agree to fight AJ at Wembley ‘faster than superman changes clothes’
If Joshua’s free, that’s a bigger name than Jared Anderson. Deontay for the right price and the right legacy would fly to Wembley to fight AJ faster than superman changes clothes. Deontay would fight AJ anywhere. He went to Russia to fight Povetkin and he’ll fight anyone anywhere in the world. He’s a world fighter, not a fighter that just fights at home. I also believe Deontay wants the Tyson Fury fight before he retires, Fury is definitely on his hit list and he is very open to it.
I don’t welcome the Jared Anderson news – he’d get knocked out cold
I don’t welcome the Jared Anderson news at all, we’ve got a big fight on our hands. We’re fighting one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world right now and we want to make a statement the Wilder way, knocking someone out ice cold. Our mission is to execute Zhang. Jared Anderson has gone the distance with guys who are not as explosive as Deontay. He is a super talented young lion, but he’s not been in with anyone on Deontay’s level. He has question marks over him, he’s making mistakes that he’d have to clean up before fighting Deontay, otherwise he’d get knocked out cold. He’s a huge talent, he’s fast, but I’ve seen him have trouble with guys who aren’t on Deontay’s level, he’s been in trouble in fights with guys who don’t punch as hard as Deontay. He went the distance last time with a guy who is not a puncher.
We’re training at Deontay Wilder’s high school to help him rediscover his hunger and violent mentality
Four times a week we’re going back to the same running track he used at the start of his career, when he had nothing, when he was a skinny kid trying to work out how he was going to feed his daughter. It’s at the high school he went to, he’s walking on his old turf in this camp. Previously, we trained at his home or a fitness gym, but this time we are back on the same track he was on as a kid. When you take things back to when you were hungry, when you had absolutely nothing, it puts you in the mental space of not having nothing. He’s training in a gym where the walls are raggedy, the posters are falling off, the place isn’t brand new. We are in these trenches everyday and it will give him that violent mentality, because that’s the mentality he had before he became world champion. He’s very aware of the position he’s in. We lost a very important fight and we need a statement.
The animal has reawakened inside of him
He’s remotivated, the animal has reawakened inside of him. It’s sad it’s taken a loss to do that, but that’s what it took. We’re holding him back this time, that’s how hard he’s going. We’re saving him from himself, making sure he’s resting properly, because he wants this so bad. He wants people to know daddy’s back. He wants people to know the killer is back.
The Bronze Bomber is back. We make no excuses, but it was a very short camp for Parker and we’re going to right that wrong. He wants to knock Zhang out. I haven’t seen Deontay like this since the first Bermane Stiverne fight, his mindset is very, very violent. He’s got a contender hunger and the tiger in his eyes like he had early on in his career. We’re going to get violent with Zhang and keep banging until he goes.
That wasn’t a physical loss to Joseph Parker, it was a mentality loss, his mentality this time is completely different. Violence was put on the shelf, but right now we’re pulling him back from him working so hard. He’s first in the gym, first at the track, he’s sleeping at the right time. The main difference this time is the mentality. He’s going to make a serious statement and in a violent manner.
